    1970 Seat Tracks

I've been working on restoring my 1970 Corvette and have a question regarding the seat tracks. The bottom part of the seat track that bolts to the floor has a black/grey phosphate finish while the upper portion appears to be simply galvanized steel. The finish on the lower portion of my seat tracks is showing some deterioration (as well as some rust on the outboard, rear mounting tabs) and I would like to separate the two sections so that the lower section can be repaired and refinished. It appears that the tracks were shipped to St. Louis already assembled, but is there any way to take them apart to repair/refinish the lower seat track section?

    Regards,

I don't believe I would try to take them apart. Maybe find another set to take apart etc. I had the entire assembly re-phosphated on my 71. the seats work great, ball bearings and all. Used a good white greece to lube the bearings/slide. Good luck! Bob

      Stan----

I don't believe that these units are designed to be "field serviced". So, while disassembly may be possible, you might never get them re-assembled as they were originally. I wouldn't chance it to gain such a subtle facet of "originality". If the seat tracks weren't working properly, then you would have nothing to lose by attempting disassembly and repair.

Interestingly, I just purchased a complete car set of NOS 1968-71 seat tracks for my "collection". In all my years, I had never even seen an NOS set of these for sale. So, when I found them, I just had to have them. It was expensive, though. But, what a find!
