70 headlight support

I replaced a damaged H/L support on my 70 awhile back. The number was correct, but the piece had a metal spacer block that had to be installed under one of the front mounting holes. Looking at my original, there seems to be a sort of step-down on the side along the length to the front. Hence the need to space, since the step positions the front mount away from the nose mounting.

I assume there is no longer a 68-75 piece. And now all service replacements are of this design. (75 & later?) My question is, are there other differences between the early piece and 75 and later piece other than this step down? Thinking there is since most venders list the 2 pieces seperately.

The headlight supports currently available from GM for 1968-74 Corvettes are GM #6258533, lh, and GM #6258534, rh. While these parts SERVICE 1968-74 Corvettes, they were not the parts used in PRODUCTION for all 1968-82 Corvettes. 1968-72 Corvettes originally used supports GM #3915681 and GM #3915682. 1973-74 Corvettes originally used supports GM #6258533 and GM #6258534. The later parts became the SERVICE parts for 68-72 when the original supports were discontinued in January, 1973 and May, 1975, respectively. The difference that you have noted is among those found between the 2 sets of part numbers.

The headlight supports for 1975-82 Corvettes are no longer available from GM.
