I removed my transmission for repair last night, because the speedo did not work. Found the worm gear too far back on the main shaft from a previous rebuild (not by me). I found thease numbers 3857584 (tailshaft), 3885010, 6A184831, p0628, A802 (main body) 3884685 (side cover). What do they mean, is this a replacement?

Probably from an Atlanta Chev Passenger car ...
Part numbers are consistent with 1966 Muncie production. Stamped numbers are representative of late June Muncie assembly, with subsequent installation in a July production Chev passenger. Possibly Chevelle (as were also assembled at Atlanta) but if '66 MY production was similar to 1965 [for which I have end-of-month production totals] then the VIN derivative points to big Chev -- Chevelle would have been approx 25000 cars less for the same timeframe.
Not sure what the A802 means; where is it located ?- Top
