I recently noticed a slight "thump" on the footwell near the pedels when decelerating in high-torque driving mode. I have replaced the engine mounts, and all bolts are tight so I don't believe the engine is torqing out of the mounts. I checked the clutch z-bar, and it has about 3/8" lateral "slop" that could be the culprit. How much should it have? Just trying to isolate the problem.

Shouldn't have much, if any, lateral slop at all; the frame-side ball stud is retained in the shaft with two nylon ball seats and a spring retainer, and the end of the stud is secured tight to the frame bracket. If you have 3/8" of play, your ball seats may be worn/disintegrated or the spring retainer may have come un-seated or broken.- Top
