    '64 spark plug shield brackets

I presume that because the exhaust manifolds were on the motor when it was painted, the spark plug shield brackets that are secured by the manifold bolts were also on the motor when it was painted. TM&JG does not mention this, but shouldn't the brackets have orange paint on them? If only orange overspray on brackets, what color were the brackets originally painted?

    Thanks and best regards,
    Charlie

    Charlie,

All engines were shipped to the St. Louis assy plant without radio shielding brackets attached to the exhaust manifold bolts. On the "engine dress line", if the engine was to be installed in a car that was to receive a radio, the bolts were buzzed out and the cad/zinc brackets were installed. That would mean orange bolts, washers and lock straps but cad/zinc brackets.

The reason it was done this way was the fact that one engine assy part number could be stocked at the plant instead of two.
