1966 master cylinder cover

Is the original 1966 factory master cylinder cover painted black or a cadmium gold colored finish. I'm getting conflicting information.

Cad Dichromate is also acceptable

The 4th edition of the '66 TIM&JG says the cap can either be semi-gloss black or cad dichromate, so the choice is yours.

I agree 100% with Bill. The debate on this goes back at least 30 years or more and I think many still believe it was supposed to be unpainted copper colored on the car but that just isn't the case. It was absolutely, positively painted semi gloss black. That's the way the master cyl arrived at the assembly plant. I believe brake fluid may have caused the original black coating to peel off early in it's life and that's at least one reason why so many think it's correct.
