    '63 4-speed shifter levers ???

Aloha, What does the correct levers for the shifter assembly on the '63 T-10 look like. The one that I bought looks like the one in Nolan Adams' Vol 2 pg 143 & 149 with the shorter reverse lever. Then I look at the AIM Sect M20 Sheet 2.00 and also at the auction on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT
and these have the much longer reverse levers. In Nolan's book pg. 149 at the bottom he says that "All 1963 4-speed trans., regardless of source, shared the same shifter, part number 3824815". I cannot find any part numbers on the one I have. Which one is correct? (Please say mine is). Many Mahalo's

    Irby,

I may be incorrect on this but I believe the shifter in the ebay ad is actually for a 62 and earlier, not a 63. I don't have a correct 63 here to look at but I'm pretty sure the reverse lever was shortened for frame clearance on 63.

The 3824815 is the correct part number for all 63 4-speed shifters, both BW and Muncie.

      Michael is right.

The seller on eBay made a mistake in his discription. His photo shows a '62-back reverse lever on his shifter. It will hit the exhaust pipe "hump" in the frame crossmember if it is installed in a mid-year frame. I know.

However, all you have to do is change the long lever out to a '63 short lever and it fits.

I concur that it hits, and have enough dirt in my eyes to verify it.

Also the inside short lever and the

correct outside short lever are NOT the same lever. Many use an inside lever to get a short outside, but the position on the cross shaft is all wrong when you try to make it work.

(Don't ask how I know this - more dirt in the eyes.)

I see what you're saying Mike. The offset is greater on the reverse lever, but looking at it you would definitely be tempted to try it cause it doesn't look that much different. Luckily, it looks like I have the right one though.

Re: Also the inside short lever and the

It is more than just the offset, it is the front-rear position. The slot in the hole where the cross shaft goes means the wrong one has to be further back for the shifter to move into that gate. This means the linkage rod may be too short to connect to the reverve lever.
