The simulated wood insert is attached with adhesive. You should be able to peel it off if you lift a edge and use a flat wide tool like a putty knife to lift if off. Hope your new ones fit. I bought some to replace the originals on my 70 and the fit was poor, the size was off, the entire unit was to small for a good fitting in place of the original. The 70's door panel is attached at the bottom with 2 plastic retainers that somewhat mesh together to hold. Near the rear bottom there should be a thin metal piece that is attached to the inside of the panel that uses one phillips head screw to attach the metal brace/bracket to the door.
