    1970 vacumn problem

Could someone help...when I turn off the car the headlights and wiper doors open. Im sure I have a vacumn leak but Im not sure where to start. Should I replace the original hoses and the headlight / wiper door actuator? Thanks Del

    Re: 1970 vacumn problem

Before you begin replacing hoses and actuators get a hand held vacumn pump and test the system. Since both the headlighjt and wiperdoors open there is a leak somewhere that prevents you from holding vacumn when the car is turned off. Start with the holding tank and test from there. There are several threads in the archives here on this topic near and dear to most corvette owners.

      Re: vacuum problem

Del, I was down this road last year, it ended up being the vacuum hose filter. I would suggest by-passing the filter and see what happens.

        Re: vacuum problem

Tom you might be thinking about the metal valve that is in the same vacuum line going to the the vacuum tank. The filter is plastic and its function is to only filter the air in the vacuum line.

            Re: Correction

The problem turned out to be the electrical leads to the TCS solenoid (vacumn filter ???) , one was not connected because of a broken plastic cover.

              Re: Correction

Very interesting. I've never heard of that one. My experience was the vacuum filter too.

If the detached lead was the fault, you can't go wrong replacing the filter just to make sure you have a fresh filter and avoid that annoying "after-flip."
