    Restoration Organization

I'm contemplating a frame-off restoration of my '71 LT-1 and I was wondering what other members have used to organize the restoration project. Specifically the project expenses or budget, the list of parts and what needs to be ordered, purchased, etc., organizing possible vendors, and keeping a schedule of the project. Does anyone know of any notebooks, manuals or software that is available for this purpose?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Restoration Organization

    Mike,

About 2 years ago I completed a full restoration of my '72 coupe (doing all of the work myself except paint and engine rebuild) so I feel I may be able to give you some helpful info. I am assuming that you are doing most of the work yourself so I will focus my advice in that direction.

While restoring a Corvette is anything but easy, it is relatively straightforward. I don't know of any software or notebooks specifically for this purpose, but I was able to get along

      Re: Restoration Organization

I do not know of any notebook or software package for this. I used MS WORD (for my journal), MS ACCESS (for my parts order status, work list and others) and MS EXCEL (for miscellanous data such as engine specs.). I think that the MS ACCESS program was the most important. I have the database setup to monitor vendors, parts on order, parts needed but not on order yet, parts wish list (ones I may not need but would love to have), parts received, work to be done, even total shipping cost. From this database I can also tell how much I have spent or will spend on parts. I have the parts catagorized by areas of the car (e.g. engine, suspension ...). This helps with knowing what you need or what you need to look at to determine if you have to buy or repair something. Also, if you can'y buy everything at once, it helps you buy what you need now. It can even generate an action list of what to do so when you are in the garage, you are not wasting time day-dreaming about driving it when you should be determining if the differential needs parts to be ordered!

If you have MS ACCESS I could e-mail this program to you to use as a template. You would need to know something about MS ACCESS in order to use it. It is home-made, so it is not full of 'helpful hints' to get you through it.

Thanks for the info. Gary, yes, I have used Access before, not alot, but some. Please e-mail the Access file to mamaem@msn.com and I'll take a look at it.

        Thanks for the help!

          Re: Above message incomplete

Most of the extremely long and detailed message that I posted above got lost in cyberspace forever during the troubles with the last server. Sorry about that. But it seems that you found what you were looking for so I won't drag it on. If you are interested in any further insights, I will be glad to help.
