the headlight switch for 68-72 cars is it still available from GM? an if so is it better than a after market?

No, it's not. The last "iteration" of the switch was discontinued several years ago.

Lyndon might try www.joerayparts.com. The listing for this headlight switch is listed with the part number 1995191 which is the same as previous headlight switches I have bought from GM.

Joe, do you know if there is any way externally to identify a 68 light switch from later cars.

At one time I had several switches for the lights. I believe the 68 may have had one less blade like terminal comeing out of the electrical connector.

I guess I am wondering if any part of the part number is located on the switch?

        Thanks, Terry

          Terry-----

The headlight switch used in PRODUCTION for 1968 through 1973 was the same. It was GM #1995166. The switch used for 1974-76 was GM #1995191. The latter part became the SERVICE switch for 68-73 after the 1995166 was discontinued. The 1995191 was discontinued several years ago, but I think that it's reproduced by Bob Rush/Specialty Parts.

There is a difference between the 2 switches and, as I recall, it does involve a different terminal or configuration thereof. I don't recall exactly, at the moment. I have many NOS examples of both of these switches [none for sale], but I have not the time or the inclination right now to dig them out to compare them.

As I recall, the last 3 digits of the part number are stamped on a metal component of the switch. I'm not 100% sure about that, though.

I recall the same thing about the last 3 digits of the part number. I will take a look at it. Thanks for the info, Terry
