    "Freeze 12 Freon" ???

The A.C needs to be recharged on my 78 Pace. I had never heard of "freeze 12 freon" before. The kit is being sold on e-bay...

Will it work and is it safe to use without causing damage to my A.C system??... Thanx Bill

a lot of the big chain auto service stores use it. some people get spooked because it contains propane and they worry about fire if you are in a wreck. i have a friend that does A/C work and use it all the time because it does not reduce the air temp out of the A/C like 134 when used in older units. i understand it is R-414B.

I found some R134A+ (Plus) and that stuff is good. Found it at an AutoZone and the people that worked there thought it was refigerant oil!

        Bill,

I have used this in some of my daily use cars that have R-12 sytems for several years without a problem. However, if your pace car is of show car quality you may want to use the R12. It may appear to be expensive, but if there is a problem with the Freeze 12 it may become costly to fix the system. I also suggest that before putting a charge in the system it would be a good idea to find out why it needs a charge. If the system needs repairing it may pay to have it converted to R134.

        Regards,

I have Freeze12 in my '73. According to the MSDS it is 80% R134a and 20% R142, I believe the number is R142. R142 is a variation of R12 that is compatible with R134a. The R142 is used to transport the R12 lubrication oil, through the system. If you use straight R134a the system must be clean of the mineral oil used with R12 and a R134a compatible oil used. Go to the Freeze12 website for more information on the product. I my area it is about $8.00 per can which is about the cost of a can of R134a.

            Great Stuff! Buy more!

Sure. It's great stuff. I'll bet Chevrolet would recommend it if it weren't for the conspiracy. And many of the OEMs are going to switch over to it any day now. Heck, what could it hurt? I use stuff like this all the time in my Corvette. Yessiree, I go down to my FLAPS and they have this section of miracle stuff in bottles. Shelves and shelves of it. I get a new one every few weeks. Fixes all my problems. My Corvette doesn't need the factory recommended good stuff. This stuff is better. Says so in the ad.

              If logic, fails resort to

sarcasm. The gent was asking a legitimate question BEFORE he purchased an unknown product and he gets this type of sarcasm as advice? I thought we were above this?

                Humor.

It's my feeble attempt at humor to make the point more effectively. If I've offended anyone, I apologize. Honest, I was trying to be helpful, and have a little fun too.

Maybe you should try the Vettehead crowd, they enjoy humor.

Thanx to everyone for the info. Chris no offence taken. Your very thoughts crossed my mind. Thus one of the reasons this thread came into being.....

It is EPA approved. That being said, EPA approval states nothing about compatability, manufacturer recommendations, nor anything about efficiency. I do not recommend use of any referigerant but R-12 or R-134a. When you have to repair a system containing anything else most shops will not remove the alternate gases, it contaminates their equipment.
