Re: C-5 help needed
i owned 3 C-5s 97,99 and a 02 and the only problem i had with any was the gas gauge that would go wackey once in a while. i would just shut off the ignition and the problem would fix itself.. now i never put more the 12,000 mile on any of them. most of the older C-5s SHOULD have had any problems fixed by now. check websites like www.corvetteforum.com for more info on C-5s- Top

Re: C-5 help needed
Hi,
I had the gears (and rubbers in the gears) of the lamp doors being worn out causing one door not to open at all (only buzz) and the other to open in a irregular manner. I replaced the original plastic (nylon) ones with brass which solved it for the next 100 years...

Re: C-5 help needed
John:
Also check the Corvette Action Center website, there is a thread in the C5 section depicting all the quirks and anomalies associated with the '97 thru '01 models. Most of the improvments and changes done by the '02, '03 & '04 models.- Top

Re: I hope it stays that way!!!
The only problem I've had with my '01 is the steering lock. Got stuck in a parking lot when the key would not unlock the steering wheel. Had to have a flat bed take it back to the dealer. Dealer stated that there was a recall on the steering lock so it must have been a common problem. As with purchasing any used car, make sure that all of the recall items have been fixed.- Top

Re: I hope it stays that way!!!
I have a 2003 and the easy entry feature that is supposed to move the seat back amd colapse the steering column only works part time. I have tried to figure out when it does and doesn't work, first drive of the day, when it is warm, etc. There doesn't seem to be any consistency in this intermitttent problem. Anyone else have the problem or the fix?
How about the nice quiet 6 speed gear box? When I start out from a stop light it sounds like I am driving an old beat up rice rocket. Gm says it is normal.
I'm with Don I like my C2, no frills, just sweet small block solid lifter noise.
Thanks,
George

Re: I hope it stays that way!!!
George,
Hate to ask the obvious, but are you unlocking the car with the key fob? If the car is already unlocked and you just hop in, the easy entry won't work. Hitting the button (1 or 2) should work as well. If that's not it, I don't have the first clue.- Top

Re: I hope it stays that way!!!
Don,
If the car is parked in the garage I don't lock it, so I don't use the fob to unlock it. I will go back and read the manual again, but I didn't think the car needed to be locked and unlocked for it to work. It's a good thought, I will check it out.
Thank you,
George- Top
