C2 Starter/Solenoid?

Until today, the starter had worked perfectly. While cranking the engine(and before it fired up) , I let the key move from the "Start" to "Run" positon. The starter disengaged but continued running. So I flipped the key "Off", and it still ran. Next, I disconnected the battery terminal and it stopped, but restarted after I touched the terminal to the battery post. After a couple attempts the starter remained quiet, then drove the old girl home. Does this sound like a solenoid problem, and if so should it be repaired or replaced? Thanks Les

The internal contacts are sticking together. Take it apart, turn the post around, polish the disc. It should be good for another 40 years or so.
