    Re: C3 air filter A212CW

    Ralph -

There was a long thread on A212CW versions here several weeks ago; if I remember the discussion, the "Best Way To" portion of the stamp ID's it as a C3-era element; in '67, they just said "Protect Your Engine.....".

          Re: AC air filter lettering

John - The "BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE........" white lettering came first and started appearing on some of the AC air filters in the late 1967/1968 calendar year time frame. The "BEST WAY TO..........." definately was on the AC A212CWs thru 1974 and between 1974 and 1976 the "BEST WAY TO" was dropped and 1977 AC A212CWs had the shorter verbiage "PROTECT YOUR ENGINE...........'

The best information I have on earlier AC A212CWs is that the pre-1968 AC A212CWs that had the 45 degree orientation of the hardware wire typically had the AC A212CW on the black Plastisol in either large outline numbers/letters or embossed smaller numbers/letters and AC SPARK PLUG. These did not have the white lettering. After saying that, I have seen some late 1967 calendar year AC filters with both the numbers/letters embossed on the Plastisol and "BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE........." in the white letters.

So like everything timeframes and dates are somewhat fuzzy as changes entered the system and were implemented across the product line.
