Abbreviated VIN in frame

Picking up on an earlier thread before the server change, I was never able to find the abbreviated VIN(s) stamped in my frame when I had the body off my '63 20 years ago. When did this practice start? (For years I thought that '63s had tank stickers and couldn't understand why there was no evidence of one on mine, but then found out this practice started later.)

My '63 had the VIN stamped on top of left rear wheel kickup.

Hello Duke. I looked for it on my 66 for a while, before I located it on top of the LH (driver side) frame rail in the rear wheel well. I needed a mirror to read it, and a wire brush to clean it up. The gap between the body and the frame isn't much, but the number is there - a little forward of the middle of the wheel well - Dave

On my '63 the vin number is stamped on the frame at the top of the left kick-up about 1/4" in from the outside edge and directly over the shock mount bracket. In my case the number is S113209. My frame was really dirty so it was impossible to see until I had it stripped, then the number jumped right out.
