Has anybody ordered a dated Delco repro battery from "Turbo Start " ? Do they pass W/O losing points? I need to also change Batt. cables to spring type. Where else can I order a correct battery for a 67 BB (I don't know if eng. size matters ) Thank you all!!!!!! Don

Steve, I have a Battery from Restoration Battery in Cincinnati and it has a plastic top. New Castle I just checked out and thet told me there's are tar top. I haven't seen one yet. I would double check this if I were buying one to make sure. Mike

I have been using the Genuine tartops from New Castle for some time years now. They are a real tartop.

I bought a battery from Restoration for my December 69 SB and it works well and gets full points in judging.

Allen: poly tar vs. real tar

Allen,

What I've heard on this topic is that Restoration Battery has now switched from the real tar top to a poly tar top since people complained that the real tar top attracted dirt that stuck in the tar and that couldn't be cleaned up easily. As a result I was under the impression that all current batteries from Restoration Battery would receive a deduct since they now only sell the poly tar top style, which is shiny and semi-hard compared to the older style, real tar top. Can anyone verify that this is the case?

How long ago did you buy your battery from Restoration and is it real tar top or is it the shiny, semi-hard poly tar top?

I bought a battery from Restoration Battery a few months ago, and it is not a real tar top. However, I think that is a small sacrifice for a sealed battery that looks great.

I agree with you. I was trying to confirm that Restoration no longer has the real tar top, and that this will indeed result in a standard deduction during judging.

1967 is last year for tar top in Corvette. 1968 up used the hard top case.

'66 was the last year for tar-tops; '67 was the first year for the hard plastic R-59 battery.
