    Dates on Glass

How far in advance of the build date should the glass date be? On our 79 the windshield code is TJ. Rear window and both doors as coded XA. I de-code the windshield as August 78. The rear window and door glass as Feb 79. The cars build date was March 21 1979. It would seem the the windshield date is a little far ahead of the build date it has the correct markings and appears to be orginal. All the sealant is uniform in application at least as far as I can tell on the inside of the windshield frame. Thanks in advance for your input.

    Re: Dates on Glass

    Bob -

Glass is one of the few items which is noted in the TM&JG as being acceptable with dates beyond the normal six-month window - OK up to a year (at least for midyears). Corvette glass was run in "batches" due to the low continuous production volume (compared to high-volume passenger cars - 120 Corvettes per day vs. 6,000 Impala/Caprice per day, for example), so it could sit around in racks for a while before finding its way to the plant and to the line.
