Re: 1963 Coupe Early or Late

Duke, I didn't say "which as you indicate are probably long gone.", I said that the chances of getting them were slim to none. They are still in GMs files, and probably will never be destroyed as they are useful releasing information to them, even today.

Actually the same applies to the AIMs. The MASTER COPIES were filmed and are still in GMs files. The MASTER copies were filmed each model year WITH ALL of the change history sheets. As you say,"Some AIM sheets were "revised and redrawn" and this wiped out the previous change record history, which is unfortunate", however, this only applied to the manuals that were used in the plants as they were REQUIRED to destroy the sheet that they were taking out. The Engineering Master copy has all the sheets.

The reasons I say that the chances are slim to none, is because # 1,getting the GM legal staff and or someone way up on the GM ******* pole to approve access and,# 2, it would take a very, very long time sitting down at a Microfilm reader printer machine to copy all of the master AIMs----they are about three times the size of the available repro AIMs.

Re: The other variable, as I was told by

John, I couldn't have said it better---you are 100% right on----except on one point, I have most (not all) MY NPCs. BTY, most of them don't have the last serial number of the car with old stock and the serial number of the first car with the new stock.
The Engineering ECRs were/are filed in numerical order and hold a wealth of information such as stock disposition, model usage, reason for the change, etc.

        master AIM's

Art, who/where are the master copies of the AIM? I am talking specifically the Chevrolet ones from the 60's.

Thanks for the clarification. I would have thought that ECR records that old would have been purged by now.

            Art,

Hope I remember this correctly but wasn't the serial number included when a change or modification at the dealer level was required for new units in stock? Seems like I remember this being the case when the dealer were instructed to check their inventory of new vehicles and make a required change or replace affected parts etc. May have also been for the service dept so they could check cars that were in for service?

              Re: master AIM's

They were in the Chevrolet Engineering Records Retention Dept until it was disbanded. They were moved to the MidLux legal department where we used them for litigation research. They have been moved again and I don't know the exact name of the department, but I do know they are still there---don't ask me how I know!
              Why do you ask?

Re: The other variable, as I was told by

Michael, I don't think that the dealers were notified of a specific serial number when a change or modification at the dealer level was required for new units in stock, but someone closer to the dealer side should be able to answer that question. I think it went something like this-----a TSB was issues by the Chevrolet Sales and Marketing group (they had the dealer contact responsibilities)to the dealers and it said something to the effect------replace all widgets in all vehicles for serial # XXXXXXX and BEFORE. With the advent of computers, it may be done by specific SI #-------don't forget, it was the stone ages in the 60s and 70s and they even used telegrams---remember them.

                  Re: master AIM's

Chris, I just looked up your profile and see that you are a GM Engineer and now see why you asked the question. If you are thinking of getting your hands on the Master copies, I have only have one word of advice---GOODLUCK! If you have enough pull to get the rolls out (there are probably 100+ rolls) we can have the rolls duplicated. I'm sure they will not let you copy them at their reader printer as it would take you about 8 hours per roll.

Re: The other variable, as I was told by

Ok, thanks Art. That makes sense. I remember a lot of TSB's that mentioned a serial number or the day/date of production that the change went into effect. It always stated that "units built before ser # xxxxx" or a certain date were affected and should be inspected or repaired/modified etc.
