Ko Motion and Astoria Chas
Here is the story of Ko-Motion as told to me by Bill Foster last sunday at the Metro Li NCRS race car event. Bill was the driver of Ko motion in 1969 when the car won the AHRA -A production Quarter mile record. The car was bought new by Charles Schneider of Astoria NY in 1967 to go racing. He was 17 years old and had to have his mothers name on the registration for insurance purposes. He named the car Ko Motion and went racing, street and track. He soon blew the orignal motor and as a result of his association with Joel Rosen of Motion Performance, an L88 was implanted. The car became legendary on the streets of NY and on the track. Soon thereafter Charles was called upon to serve his country in Viet Nam. Like any good American, he went. Tragically, he made the ultimate sacrifice on the battlefields of Nam. Then in 1969, Charles' mother was approached by Joel Rosen who asked if he could borrow the car in an attempt to capture the AHRA record. She agreed, and sure enough, Joel and Bill along with another driver, brought home the record in the name of Charles Schneider. Then the car was parked in a garage and untouched for more than 30 years. Evidently, it served as a reminder for the Schneider family of their beloved Charles. The car was found by the current owner and preserved exactly as it emerged from the garage. Including the layer of dust that covers the ET numbering on the back window. I was amazed and thrilled by this piece of Corvette and American history. Thank you . Tom Commons- Top
