Starter Brace

On a 1957 4sp fuelie should there be a starter brace? I thought the starter brace was only used on the automatic's

According to GM, a starter brace was first used on Corvettes for 1962 with Powerglide. Passenger cars used them from 1956-on, though. I don't know, in this case, if the GM information is acccurate as far as the lack of a starter brace on Corvettes. It seems strange to me that passenger cars would have them and Corvettes not.
