    75 Brake Booster

I am in the process of replacing the booster in my 75 driver. the replacement I bought doesn't exactly match my old one. I need help with the following.
    1) Does any one know how far the push rod for the master cylinder is supposed to extend beyond the face of the booster at the cylinder flange conn.
    2) The rod I received with the unit is not adjustable and is too short ( about 1 1/4" ). I was told by a rep. of the company where it was purchased to just take my old one and cut it off to work. Will there be a problem with doing this? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi Mike,
I'd take it back and get the one that looks the same as the original, why try to fix their mistakes, and end up with more problems than you need.

Thanks for the advise Ken but I don't have the invoice to return it. I bought from another person who never installed the unit on his 76. I will probably just chalk this up to experience and buy one from a reputable supplier.

        Mike,
Have you considered sending the old one to a booster rebuilder? Booster Dewey and others can take your old stock booster (if available) and rebuild to like new specs. Same can be done with master cyls.

          HI Mike
I looked into that but I got such a good deal on this booster I thought this was the way to go. My 75 isn't a judging candidate by any means. I bought it just to have a fun driver. I am replacing the booster because the original got the check valve broken off and you can't buy just the valve for the 75's. Thanks for the suggestion though.

you can buy just a check valve and

Just about every GM PB passenger car product from 1963to 1982 is the same piece.

Thank you Doc for your input. Unfortuneately I did not research your catalog concerning this until I read this thread. I was basing my assumption on other vendors catalogs and tech help which showed and stated that after 74 the check valves were not replaceable without a complete teardown. I should have checked further before jumping in and buying this booster. Could have saved a bunch of my hard earned dollars.
