    1970 Relay Rod Inspection Marks

I have seen some cars with a white daub of color on the top face of the rod toward the passenger side.I also have seen some cars with two 1/4 inch stripes 1/2 inch apart from each other towards the opposite end of the white daub of the relay rod.Any relationships to an early 70 or later models or prior years.

Greg, my very late 70 had a white ring drawn around the rod on the passenger side between the two outboard holes, i.e. the PS cylinder hole and the end hole for the tie rod. The ring had a "tail", that is, the line making the ring turned outboard after completing the ring, and followed the backside of the rod to the end hole.

The white mark probably means the same thing however it is drawn...i.e. the RH tie rod connection (or more?) has been inspected for tightness and passed. Different styles of white marks probably just reflect the individuality of the inspectors.

      Chuck,

Can you share any other Inspection Mark locations on front and rear components as well as shim frame stencil marks. The quantity of shims are usually written on the frame at the front and rear wheel locations as I have seen on other cars.

If I were still working, I would probably have the time, but now that I'm retired, I'm busier than an one-armed paper hanger. It would take too much typing to tell you about all the marks I found on my 70; it would be a short course.

IMO, if you have found marks on your car, your best bet is to go with those marks and not try to replicate marks found on another car. If you have questions, or need confirmation of what you're seeing, I'll be happy to help.
