C1 58 arm rest question

I am restoring a 58 interior. The original plastic cover that screws to the inside of the arm rest was painted the interior color however, I have seen some where these are black. Based on the number of items that were wrong on this car, I was wondering if it is supposed to be painted or not. Again, as always thanks for any help.

My early 58 has black unpainted plastic inserts. The plastic has a swirly color to it in places. I believe it is original. I would soak yours in greased lightning as this will likely lift the paint and not harm the plastic. Good luck. Ken
