    C2 Distributor 111156

A friend gave me a distributor he had in a drawer of parts that carries # 111156 with date code 5 K 1 (I believe). Black Book indicates a 1966 327/350 Corvette.

Should this be rebuilt before use and what's it value as is...say as a core?

    Does it have other applications?

Any used dist. should receive a thorough inspection before use. If shaft side play is no more than about a couple of thou the bushings are okay.

Inspect the end play then disassemble the distributor. Thoroughly clean and inspect and assemble with a new breaker plate and new grease in the upper bushing grease well. Make sure the breaker plate is snug and does not wobble, and shim up the end play to two to seven thou. Use the high breaker arm tension points for applications with redlines above 5500.

Install a new vacuum that is suitable for the application along with a suitable centrifugal curve.

I don't know of any other applications for the 156 dist, but the only difference in most Delco single point dist. is the igntion map, which can be easily changed with different vacuum cans, and weights and springs. The rate of centrifugal advance and total advance is built into the breaker point cam assembly and the cams at the top of the mainshaft, but most provide 24 to 30 degrees, which will suit most applications with suitable initial timing.

The going rate for a tach drive 'core' distributor is around $100. Might fetch more depending on specific condition...
