I have learned so many things in the last 1 1/2 years of owning and restoring my 58' big brake car. Fortunetely, the only big brake items missing were the brake shoes, all four shocks, rear brake cylinders, and screen covers. The main thing that I learned is that anyone who has any big brake parts will not sell them but may consider trading them for other big brake parts SO: Buy any and all of the big brake parts that you can just to have some trading material.
I am just now finishing the chassis and drivetrain and I was VERY fortunate to have 1 particular fellow call me in regards to a want ad placed in the Driveline for all of these parts except the screen covers. I paid a ton of money for the shoes, rear cylinders, and all four shocks but at least I have them.
My original plans were to hoard all of the other RPO684/686/687 parts that I have found along the way but that would not help the guys who are in the situation that I was in. So, I am going to return the favor in the next edition of the Driveline. If it weren't for the NCRS, its members, and its publications, my 58' would still be in the same form as it was 1 1/2 years ago instead of the way it is now....which is the way it was from the factory.
If there is anything I can do or any questions I can answer plese feel free to contact me. Thanks gang, Justin Beck
