    Front Caliper Mounting Bracket

CRS part II and I’m away from my library books. Does one design fit all 65-82 or are there 65-67 versions and 68-82 versions.

    Re: Front Caliper Mounting Bracket

One design service for all, but looks like a P/n change as the part in the '81 parts book is 3928649-650. '75 parts books shows 3864115-116 for '65-67

      Bill and Geoffrey-----

Yes, the GM #3928649 and GM #3928650 are the 1968-82 front caliper brackets and the GM #3864115 and GM #3864116 are the 65-67 brackets. The former became SERVICE for the latter when the latter were discontinued in February, 1975 and October, 1974, respectively. What's the difference between them? There's only one functional difference. The 2 holes for bracket retention to the spindle for the earlier parts were 15/32" and the same holes in the later parts were 17/32". This was to accomodate the larger steering arm bolts first used for 1968. Since the latter brackets will work just fine for the earlier applications, they became the SERVICE parts for same.

          3 types for J56

There were 3 different J56 parts - 1965 to 67, 1968, and 1969 and newer. Don't have my parts book available but I think one side of the 1968 was the same as the 1969.

You're thinking of the nodular cast iron supports used only for J-56. There were no special caliper brackets used for J-56.

                The 65-67 supports were 15/32". The 1968-only and 69-75 supports were 17/32".
