    '64 Gauge "Refacing"

While I have the gauge cluster out of my car, I plan to send the speedometer/tach assembly out to be cleaned/repaired (particularly the two odometers, which haven't worked since I've owned it). The gauge faces all look great, with the exception of the redline markings on the tach, which have faded. Has anyone ever just had the redlines and needles retouched, without full gauge refacing? How did it come out and who did the work? Having stared at the tach for too long last night, I can't really see how it would be done and not be very notciable. What have others done?

    Thanks.

    Mark:

If the gauge face is not too badly faded, some restorers offer a cleaning service, where the face is carefully cleaned to remove any dead paint, and freshen the face without new silkscreening. Corvette Instruments did my clock face in this way, while rescreening all my cluster gauges. The difference is ever so slight, but since they are remotely installed in the dash, it is very, very hard to spot the difference.
Long Island Corvette Supply, among others, sells the paint for the needles.

The silk screening that most restorers do is somewhat different that the original face. The lines, numerials, lettering, are a little thicker that the original.

        Slightly different question

Can the redline on the tach be "retouched" without rescreening the entire gauge face? (OK I know, anything can be done) - question is has anyone done this and how does it look? I would think this would be very noticable.
