    66 wiper adjustment

The wipers are not often used on my 66 but I got caught in the rain yesterday and had to use them. My problem is they wipe too far on both sides and they don't lay down far enough. It seems as if I were to take the wiper arm off and rotate it 1 tooth I would be where it would be acceptable. Now is this the proper way to adjust or what is the proper way?

    Dennis:

If the sweep does not have to be drastically adjusted, then there is an oval head Phillips screw, located on the after surface of each arm, about halfway up from the base. This screw offers a small amount, perhaps ten degrees, of adjustment.

      PS

The passenger side sits above the drivers' side wiper when they are parked.

If I am not already adjusted too far that is about all that I should need. Thanks.

Yes they park in the proper orientaton. The sweep carries them up onto the stainless window trim slightly and then of course they are a bit too high when they are parked. Thanks again.

If you were to start from scratch you should remove both arms, turn on the wiper motor, turn off the wiper motor, it is now in the parked position. Re-install the wiper arms after zero'ing out the adjustment screw. Now you have the optimun starting point. Good luck.

              Brian,

Thanks for that added tip. I would have never known the proper way to do this if it wasn't for this forum. Thanks everyone!!

                Add-on...

'Zero out' the adjustment means to count adjusting screw turns and set the screw in the MIDDLE of its range....

Also, understand this adjustment tweaks the 'cant' angle of the blade to the arm. You need to get the arms installed on the drive hubs in their grossly correct orientation (rest positions with respect to the lower windshield reveal molding) to start with....
