    Collector Car Insurance

Does anyone have any good experiences with collector car insurance companies that they would recommend?

I currently have Grundy and I am fighting with Chubb who undrwrites them over some hail damage my car received at the NCM regional in May. I like their policy that has an agreed upon value and no mileage limitations but what good are they if they refuse to pay a reasonable claim. Right now I would not recommend them to anyone.

So now I am looking to switch my business to another company so I would appreciate any information, good or bad, about collector car insurance companies.

    Thanks

Since 1976, car collectors have trusted American Collectors Insurance for Agreed Value classic car insurance and #1 rated customer service.

        Hagerty, Pays it's Claims!!!

I have Hagerty and am very pleased with them, but not myself. I was reciently working on a car insured by them and closed the hood without putting the air cleaner on. Well guess what??? it backfired and started a carb. fire. Before I could get it out it damaged the hood, the paint is base clear sanded and buffed to look perfect. An adjuster came to inspect and was VERY careing and payed for top dollar for everything. HATS OFF TO HAGERTY!!!!

I have all my insurance through State Farm including my 65. I only have to deal with one company and my local agent. They have agreed value collector car insurance, and will insure up to 50K. Anything over 50K requires an appraisal. I've always been pleased with State Farm. The only disadvantage is the local agent likely won't know a C2 from a Seadoo!

              Re: Collector Car Insurance

I have heard many good things about Haggerty and my neighbor has 4 collector vehicles with them and recommends them highly so I am about to insure my Corvette and Benz with them. Spoke to their rep at an auto show and he explained it was agreed value, not stated value, and that if anything happened to either car, I would be covered under one policy. No mileage or event driving restrictions as long as I can prove they are not daily commuter vehicles. Cost for both cars was one half of what I am currently paying for the Benz alone. My Corvette is a 68 whihc is presently nearing the end of an 8 year restoration so I have done lots of research on insurance companies and will go with Haggerty.
              Hope this helps you.

                  David,
My vote is for Hagerty. I had a claim last fall and they handled all aspects of making a claim extremely easy. Their communication was great also.

I too have State Farm. Does anyone have experience with claims? Most of the specialty insurers I got quotes from would not give liability above $100K. I needed $300K before my State Farm umbrella would kick in.

One collector car insurance company that has been around for longer than most if not all of the others is J.C. Taylor in Pennsylvania. They have all the correct features such as agreed value,no deductible, spare parts coverage, etc. Although I've never had a claim with them (thank goodness!),I know of those who have and they were very satisfied.

In Canada Hagerty is not availible. The Canadian version would be Tony Lant and "Silver Wheels" for a car over 25 years of age.

                          Re: Collector Car Insurance

I am in the process of reviewing each of the "Big 4" collector car insurance companies (Hagerty, ACI, Grundy and JC Taylor). I requested and received a copy of the policies because I need to "see it in writing" before I buy. I just received Hagerty's this very morning so I'm not ready to make a decision yet.

The first place I went was my normal car insurance agent (State Farm). They are clearly cheaper by 30% or more, but.... My agent said, very clearly, that State Farm only sells "stated value" vs "agreed value" insurance, which as I understand it, gives them the right to "de-value" or "depreciate" the car, in the event of a total loss, to a value that is determined by "the Old Car Price Guide" which is a book of values of the most recent sales across the country. Of course, the top value is substantially less than your "stated value". In other words your stated value is a "starting point". The actual payoffs are most likely much less. I think that's why their insurance is 30% cheaper!

I told my agent that agreed value is what I what and that's what I'm going to buy......sorry!

In British Columbia, Canada we have I.C.B.C. (Insurance Corporation of British Columbia) which is a government run company and it costs me $30.00 per month for full coverage just as long as I don't use the collector car for to and from work or school. Other than that I can drive it till the cows come home, how about you,how much do you have too pay?

I'll add another vote for J.C. Taylor Insurance. I've had them for over 25 years and although I've never had a claim with them, I know others that have and have had no complaints. Some of the other insurance co.'s have very low liability limits and strict usage rules. Go to J.C. Taylor's web site for more info.
