'67 Backup Light switch linkage rod

I just installed a new backup light switch and linkage rod. The problem I have is that after placing the trans in reverse a few times the little hitch retaining clips pop right off of the linkage rod. Anyone experience this or have a suggestion as how to solve the problem?

    Thanks.

The switch position is adjustable. It sounds like you are bottoming out the switch movement. You really only need to move the arm of the switch a little ways and the the backup lights will come on. I would only adjust it far enough to turn the lights on and maybe a tiny bit further.

Get your car up in the air and put the car all the way in reverse. I would look at how the reverse shift rod and lever are adjusted. It might be possible to have it only 1/2 way in reverse and then have the transmission pull the lever further back untill fully engaged under load. But I am not certain on that one since it has been a long time since I looked at the adjustment.

    Hope that helps, Terry
