Rear end gear ratio tag on 1962 corvette

    Hi all

I need to get some clarification on the Differential tags.
I have 3:36 gear ratio on my 1962 vette.I had a guy go through the gears to make sure there in good condition. He noted that they are 3:36...Ok, in the corvette chassis restoration guide (book) written by Joseph A Tripoli Jr. on page 53, he shows a picture of an unrestored 1962 posi differential. Plane as day you will notice the round tag only has ONE hole in it for the bolt on the differential. That tag represents 3:36 gears, correct? If this is true, then why does corvette central,& paragon, that I know of show the tag with one hole being 3:55 gears and two holes 3:36.. I had to purchase a tag and I went with the single hole..Is this correct? Why can't everything be the same? Please let me know what is correct.

    Thanks..........John

GM documentation says that the 3.36 has two holes. THAT IS WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been documenting passenger cars and solid axle Corvettes with 3.36 gears since the mid 70's. Every single one of them with an original 3.36. posi or non-posi, has had a round tag with only the hole for mounting. GM documentation should indicate that 3.55 has two holes and 3.36 has one. With the exception of those two being inverted, the 3.08, 3.7, 4.11, and 4.56 tags are correct in their documentation.

      Hi Mike

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I tried to tell corvette central that the info in there catalog on the tag is wrong and they still left it being 2 holes for 3:36 gears.. So to all corvette owners out there with 3:36 gears. If you need a round tag, do not go by what corvette central or Paragon have in the catalogs. The tag calls for one hole only....

Thanks again Mike for the correct information...

      John

Its probably a little late for me to jump on here, since this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the page, but I agree.
I have posted NUMEROUS times on numerous web sites as well as communicated with several of the aftermarket suppliers (both Vette and pass car) about the incorrect illustrations of the 3.36-3.55 tags. VERY few people on the web sites and NO ONE from the aftermarket sources have responded positively.
But as Mike mentioned, the 3.36 tag is supposed to have (based on the unmolested Vette and pass car rears that I have observed) only ONE hole for attachment.
