65-82 Front Knuckle Bolt Torque Values ??

The front knuckle torque values are not in the AIM due to their assembly state at the factory. What are the values for that short stubby upper bolt (GM# 3864119) and the smaller lower one?

    Thank you,
    Geoffrey Coenen

    Geoffrey-----

The brake anchor bolt (the upper short, stubby one) is torqued to 120 lb/ft.

As far as the TWO lower bolts go, I've never found a GM specification for these anywhere. I've looked and looked and come up dry. So, I use the upper end of "standard" bolt torques for the size, material and thread pitch involved. There were 2 different sized bolts used during the 65-82 period, though. 1965-67 used 7/16-20 bolts; 68-82 used 1/2-20 bolts. So, for the 7/16-20 I recommend using a torque value of about 60-65/lb/ft with lubricated threads. For the 1/2-20 I recommend using about 95-100 lb/ft with lubricated threads.

No keyways are involved, at all.

      Thanks Joe

Sorry I won't get to see you at BloomingCharles. I was ready to stock the fridge with your favorite non-alky beverage. Utah is just to far to drive, and my bus cannot fly and neither do I anymore. So it will have to wait till Carlisle. We'll leave the light on fer ya.

        Geoffrey-----

Yes, I am sort of missing this trip to the midwest, too, especially after missing it for the last 2 years. Usually, I go back to the midwest for a week, including the show, and then go on to the east coast for another week. The reality of it all is that I have "other interests" in the midwest that are really the "prime focus" of the whole 2 week trip. Corvettes at Bloomington and lobsters/steamed clams in the east are really quite secondary, but still important, elements of the trip. But, I'll miss it all this June.

By the way, I've tracked down that "elusive" woodruff key used for the 63-74 power steering pump application. It's the least I could do to satisfy my bedevilment. It's GM #124543. I mean, I wasn't going to let that SOB get away without, at least, identifying it. GM supplies it only in a package of 50, though, for about 1 buck each, GM list.
