        joe any electronic ignition can fail,MSD included, but if you start off with NOS GM parts and no water gets into the "black box" they will run for a long time. we ran the GM TI system on race cars and never had a failure. the germaniun transistors will not take heat like the silicon ones but if every thing is wired correctly and the "black box" is grounded thru the wiring harness correctly and you pull the box harrness plug when welding or charging the battery you should not have a problem. i had 3 new corvettes with the TI system and they all ran 10,000/15,000 trouble free miles,new corvette every year so i never put more miles than that on them.. i have posted before how to make sure the ground to the box does not come loose and if you do this the system should be fine. also check the new box to make sure there is NO paint where the ground wire terminal goes

          if you want to use your mag pulse distributor

          with a HEI module i have a sketch. this setup works well,is reliable and you will have the tach drive.
