    Corvettes cruising to LeMans sweep

Wow! Something must have happened to both Aston Martins overnight (daytime in France). I last checked in about 11 PM PDT last night and it was Aston - Corvette - Corvette - Aston with all in the hunt.

The #64 Gavin/Beretta/Magnassen C6.R is currently fifth overall and first in class completing 334 laps with just over and hour to go.

The #63 Fellows/O'Connell/Papis car is sixth overall and second in class two laps back.

The two Astons are 4 and 5 laps behind #63.

If the Corvettes don't have any problem they should cruise to a GT1 sweep.

    TO TEAM!!!

With 1.5 hours to go, both Astons had problems. I think one ran out of fuel on the far side of the course and the other is stuck in the pit with problems. One of the Astons was just ahead of the lead Corvette when the problems developed - if the Astons would not have had issues it would indeed have been VERY close. If the C6Rs take 1st and 2nd in GT1 - WHOOOOOO HOOOOOO! AND CONGRATULATIONS TEAM CORVETTE! 14 MINUTES TO GO...

Thanks for the update. I should have gotten up and hour earlier!

So are you going to order your Z06 in Speed Yellow?

Make that VELOCITY yellow, and the order is already placed...

Once again, reliability is the key to Le Mans. Wish I could have seen the race (listened to some of it on Internet Global radio on the computer). It appears the Astons are really fast - what size engine do they have? Apparently, the Astons also may have changed a configuration on the front end of the car before the race, which Team Corvette protested, but were denied.

        Corvette C6R - 1st and 2nd in GT1 - a wonderful accomplishment!

Fast speeds, minor problems.... A GREAT team effort. Congrats to the CORVETTE Team. 3 minutes to go.

            - stating that the Astons were faster than the Corvette, but Corvette reliability and durability came through again. Congratulations to Chevrolet and Team Corvette, as the National Anthem is being played and the drivers are on the podium, 1 and 2!

Re: Corvettes cruising to LeMans sweep

The Astons qualified in the high 3:40s versus 3.55s for the Corvettes.

The fastest race lap for the Astons was 3:51.4 versus a best Corvette race lap of 3:53.9 for the winning #64 car. The Astons are definitely faster, and hopefully the ACO will make some weight or air restrictor adjustments.

The Astons run a DOHC 4V/cylinder V-12 - very similiar to the Ferrari 550/575 engine, and I think they run it at 6.0L displacement. It can rev higher and make more power than the 7L Corvette pushrod V-8, which is why the sanctioning organizations require air restictors and adjust allowable weights to keep one car from running away with all the roses.

I'd like to see the Astons run over here in ALMS, which has slightly different rules, and ALMS is quick to penalize runaway cars with restrictions (more weight or smaller inlet restrictors), but I don't know if they plan on running the ALMS series over here.

Right now the Corvettes don't have any serious competition in ALMS.

Re: Ron Fellows Just Summed it Up...

Two years ago, when the Corvettes got beat by the ProDrive Ferrari 550 Ron said that the Corvette could beat the Ferrari on total time even though the Ferrari could cut quicker lap times.

The differnce was fuel consumption. The Ferrari was more thirsty and had to make more refueling stops, but the Corvettes had some problems and the Ferrari had a perfect race with nothing other than routine stops for fuel and tires.

This time lady luck was on the side of Team Corvette. Both the Corvette and Aston Martin teams had problems, but this time the other guys had more problems than our guys!

In addition, the overall winner (Champion Audi LMP-1) is an American team (from Florida), along with the Corvette GT1 team and the winning GT2 team; 3 of the 4 winning teams are American. First overall win by an American team since Foyt/Gurney in 1967. Lots of stars and stripes waving in France this morning!

See the Vintage Corvettes and Camaroes run. We make lots of noise, and some are just as pretty as the C6-Rs. Look me up, I'm number 71. Jerry

The Team may have been American but Ron Fellows is a Canadian.
