I have a dec 65 car with a 3855961 dec block in it. I want to find a 3869942 nov or early dec 65 block install it in the car and leave the pad blank for judging. I have seem 942 blocks on ebay, but not 961 blocks. Is the 961 block as valuable as the 942 or wasn't it ever used much? Is it a truck or car block?
66 Vette, 961 Vs. 942 block?

Hint...
If you're going to go that route, it'll be obvious to all that it's a replacement engine bloc put there for partial credit. NOTHING is wrong with this approach!!!
But, why nail your shoes to the floor and try to walk around by placing the extra burden on yourself of rounding up a Nov-Dec block casting? Why not let the judging rules work FOR you and be willing to accept anything within the 6-month window?
Next, why insist on the block having a blank pad? There's 38 points associated with the pad surface (broach marks), so why not leave whatever numbers are already embossed on your replacement block, lose points for the stamp being wrong (50 points) and gain points for the pad surface being right?
In other words, to get a replacement block with a BLANK pad you'd either have to deck the lid of pass car/truck donor block (bye bye factory original broach marks) or have the luck of Job and stumble across an original over-the-counter spare bare block that was properly broached but NEVER embossed...- Top

Re: Hint...
Thanks jack for the hint. So I guess I could just look for a close date and would gain all but 50 points using the block as is. I wish we could just deck a block and restamp and let everyone know it's a matching number car "WITH A REPLACEMENT BLOCK". Wouldn't that be acceptable and not telling any lies?- Top
