    62 gas cap

I have a vented gas cap on my 62. How hard is it to find the correct one and how what it a fair price?

    Thanks, Chris

Only correct one for 62 is F E (for Fuller-Emerson). I remember my first 62 in 74 and looking at that and trying to figure out how a gas cap could register full (F) and empty (E). One just went on ebay--I think it went for $122.50, which is about average for those. They are not easy to find--I saw two for sale at Carlisle last year, both in that price range, as I recall.

If anyone has an F-E cap in reasonable shape for a '62 in the $125 range, I've got a check with their name on it for them (even though I know it goes against the points per dollar mantra!). The only one I recall seeing on Ebay in the last few months went for more like $225.....

A friend has a 62. I've looked for him...and helped him look at flea markets/EBAY for a FE cap. Have never seen one at a flea market. When I see one advertised, or on EBAY, they go for BIG money. Good luck in your search. There are probably a few hundred other 62 owners looking for the same thing. Chuck

There will be a reproduction F-E gas cap hitting the market soon. Haven't seen it yet but all indications are it should be a nice one.

Sweet! Any idea on which vendors will have it and/or a time frame? Anything's better than the old 24 gallon tank cap I've got on there now.

                Re: 62 gas cap

Mike I have been meaning to look at my gas cap because I didn't remember it as having an F E on it. While I can't swear that this is my original gas cap, I can't for the life of me think why it wouldn't be but...........it isn't F E. What I believe is my orig '62 gas cap looks very much like the one in the middle picture on the bottom of pg 33 in the "Tech Info Manual and Judging Guide" EXCEPT mine has a raised rib perpendicular to the "handle" on the cap and there is a fine script S on the "button" in the very center of the cap. On the top half of the cap as it sits in the referenced picture it says "Anti Surge" and on the bottom half it says "vented". My car is #5188 so it does have a mixture of '61 & '62 parts....but this sure is a long way from what appears to be documented caps for the '62. Just thought I'd throw in my 2-cents and wish that I could swear it was absolutely the one that came on the car.

                  John -

The "S" on the center rivet says it's a "Stant"-manufactured cap.
