    Can anyone help me trace this back??

    I purchased my LT-4 conv a year ago knowing that it was first registered as a "fleet vehicle" in Warren, MI (Car Fax). I just purchased a build sheet and window sticker from NCM. This is the interesting part. On the summary sheet that NCM gives you, it says at the bottom:

    CHARGE TO: NAO CVO - TECH CENTER REGION 00-502

    AT WARREM,MI 48090

    DEALER #502 IN ZONE #00

    THIS CAR WAS BUILT FOR A PARTICULAR PERSON OR PURPOSE

    AND DELIVERED TO

    WARREN, MI

    DEALER #847 IN ZONE #70

    What does all of this mean?? Can anyone help me trace it back??
    Also, what, if any,impact does it have on the value of the car??

    Thanks!

    Chris -

    That essentially means that the car was ordered to be placed in company service; most likely a P.E. car (Product Evaluation) that was driven by an executive for 3,000 miles and then sold to an employee.

      Thanks. Does anyone have an idea to find out who or further details? Since the car is a '96 I would not think that the info would still be around.

        Chris,
        NAO=GM North American Operations
        CVO=Company vehicle Operations
        Apparently it was a GM Fleet vehicle assigned to (or ordered for later purchase by) an employe eligble for a company provided vehicle under GM's product evaluation program (PEP). GM has a large engineering center known as the Tech Center in Warren, Mich.

          Check with Michigan DMV they should have records back to 96. Doesn't a Carfax report list previous owners?

          Once you get previous owners you can call them and track it back. As far as value it means nothing. Only a few Corvettes are used in Company service and those are for high ranking individuals. Most likely this is a "buy and drive" car. Most GM employees who have company cars have to buy a new vehicle every 2 years as part of the company car program. A "buy and drive" is a car ordered for company car service with the express purpose of the driver buying it after a short time in company car service to fulfill their obligation to buy a new GM car.

            Re: Can anyone help me trace this back??

            It does not say anything helpful on the Carfax. However, I am looking at the build sheet and it says ship to: C-P-C Group C/O Qual-Effic Inc, 7113 eleven mile rd, Warren ,MI. It was only a "fleet car" for about a year and 2k miles before I believe it went to Kerbeck Corv. in AC. Kerbeck of course has no records back past 2 years. Has anyone tried to get GM's help on this kind of thing??

            Thanks for all of you insight so far!

              Is your car a collector's edition conv. with red interior by any chance? LT4/6 speed of course.
              I had one as a test car for the 1996 MY. Don't know where it went. I have a couple of photos of it.
              I can tell you that GM would have no records for a car that old.

                No. It is an LT-4 but NOT a GS. It is white, white top, red interior. I guess I am going to hit a dead end.

                  I guess I am still confused on what you are looking for? It looks to me like a GM/CVO company car that any 8th and above level would get as a company car. They tended to go to the Marketing division folks (in this case Chevrolet) or to the Engineering group responsible for the car (Corvette platform). Qualiffic is a company GM contracted to receive the vehicles from the plant, get to the driver, get back from the driver after 3 months, clean up, take the paperwork and then send off for auction or to the GM employee who ordered the car as a drive and buy. In this case it looks like Kerbeck got it. Why do you think it was a fleet car for a year?

                    Bill, do you know that fleet does not have records back that far?

                      Chris. Until 1998 all Chevrolet dealers techs took training tests. There were 10 categories and about 15 tests including a phone test. The 4 highest scoring techs in each class recieved a all expense paid trip and any new Chevy of your choice free for one year. I won 2 times. I ordered a new yellow LT4 . When it was built I was invited to the Corvette plant to see it being finished. I got to ride in it on the roll test and its maiden voyage around the building. And I backed it off the truck at our dealer. We had the option to buy after our year was up but I didnt. The car was flatbeded away after my year was up and went to the auction. I put 20,000 miles on it. It was never titled and was sold as a zone car. so someone bought a NEW 20,000 mile LT4. I know quite a few of the winners got corvettes. The second time I won we could not get Corvettes ......Bill PS. I have the window sticker but I dont think it has anything unusual on it.

                          I don't believe Qualific was in place in 96, still GM. I know they got ride of info after 3 years.

                            Bill, his build sheet says it was shipped to qualiffic so they must have been around? Did not know they got rid of info after 3 years.

                              Hi Bill,

                              I respectively disagree with you about GM not retaining fleet vehicle records going back to 1996. I have been retired since 1999, and unless things have changed drastically since then, I'm pretty sure they are still keeping such records longer than that. Just before I retired, I had to research some of the 1983 Corvettes that were used strictly as company test vehicles and there were such files going back even farther than that.

                              With that said, I'm very sure that they will NOT release any of them to an "outsider".
