I have allways used Eastwoods high temp satin black, and have never taken a hit for it. It lasts well and does not burn off like I am sure that the original blackout paint did.

I paint them black all the way to the tip and have never taken a deduct. In reality, they were probably only painted to where the tailpipes were added to go through the tunnells, since that was all the exhaust that was on the chassis when blackout took place. On 61-62 cars, I believe tha the entire system was in place and should probably get painted. I have never found the judges to be too anal retentive about the exhaust blackout, but maybe I have just been lucky.
