1954 engine cast number

Looking at a 54 for purchase and can't find cast number. Where is it located? I don't think it is the correct block, where would I find a source for 6 cylinder cast numbers to find out what it might be.

1954 Engine casting #s

Ted,
The engine block casting # for a 54 C-1 is #3835911.The head casting # is #336241.
The engine code on the pad should be "YG". All of this info I found in the Corvette Specifcation Guide sold by the NCRS bookstore.

cast # on pass side down by fuel pump. cast date on same side but back partially hidden by the starter motor. pad just rear of distributor. good luck.ike
