Joe, can you tell me if the rear deck lid bushings for my '70 convertible are still available from GM? There is a listing on ebay #4556658784 for two such NOS parts, which usually means someone just bought them from a GM dealer.
Thanks, Jim 42765
Why not pick up the phone and call your local Chevy dealer for the answer? I'm not sure I see the rationale as to why Joe Lucia needs to do this rather mundane task for you...
Jack, Since Joe (and yourself) are the walking-talking Corvette parts encyclopedias and have answered countless similar questions on this discussion board, it seemed a simple (and yes mundane) question.
Most Chevy parts guys take a deep breath when you ask them to look up a 35 year old part, and good luck trying to describe this part over the phone.
However, if this question is too mundane (I didn't know the questions on this board were rated) I'll make sure I ask a more difficilt question next time.
One reason is that my local Chevy dealer is useless, and Joe has better sources at his fingertips. I get no help unless I go in with a part # and I'm sure it's available. Those parts stools are real comfortable and it takes a lot of effort to punch the keys on a computer. In fact I noticed that the 3 bottom bolts that hold the bumper to frame on my 03 Astro van were missing from the factory. They didn't show up on the parts screen so I went out onto the lot to see if a van on the lot had them. Sure enough the two on the lot had them , I went back inside and told them that indeed they should be there. They still didn't believe me so now I'm going back with a wrench and remove one from the lot van and take it inside. Can't blame them though it wasn't on the parts list and they wouldn't go outside with me to check it so it must be me.
For current GM availability, check gmpartsdirect..
...(dot) com. Every time I suspect that some eBay seller is re-selling stuff that is still available. Never bought anything from them, even though their prices seem quite reasonable, as I hear that shipping/handling (especially to Canada) is astronomical.
The bushings pictured are GM #3976442. Those bushings have been recently discontinued by GM. I can't find any supercessive number so it may be the "end of the line" for this part. If there is a supercessive part number, using the above -referenced number, a GM dealer may be able to come up with it.
By the way, although similar in appearance, these bushings are NOT the same as the windshield header bushings used for 68-82 coupes and convertibles.
