    Special Prize..times up!

Okay...The story of the photo shoot for the 250,000th Corvette was relayed to me by John Evans..the Chief Inspector of the St.Louis Corvette plant. ( Who by the way was responsible for the transition of production from Flint to St.Louis ).

He said the girl was later to be known as Mary Frann..who played Bob Newharts wife on the television show.

Now taking into account that Mr.Evans was in his later years at the time of this discussion..there is always the possibilty of some name confusion.

So..for those of you that submitted names..if you e-mail me your address..I will send each of you a copy of the 1957 vintage racing poster.

I am leaving for Bloomington today..so it may take a while.

Suzanne Pleshette played his wife. She was already an accomplished star by the mid 60's.

She played his wife in the other Bob Newhart show where he was a bed and breakfast owner. And was much younger than him.

Susanne Pleshette played his wife in the first series. Then there was another series where Bob Newhart and his series wife ran a hotel...The wife in that series was Mary Frann! This is the series with the famous line..this is my brother Darrel and my other brother Darrel!

        Tom Postman was the handyman.

Speaking of Anitta Knudervett, she has a sister Ivanna, both of whom my wife despises. There's no accounting for taste.

The handyman, George, was played by Tom Poston, not Postman.

                Re: Special Prize..times up!

Since we're obviously on a Newhart "nostalgia" roll here, does anyone remember the last scene of the final episode of the second series (with Bob as a Vermont innkeeper), and what his final words were (spoken to Suzanne Pleshette, NOT Mary Frann)?

That episode "tied" the two series together in a strange way. The final scene is Bob and Suzanne Pleshette in bed. Bob turns on the light and says he can't sleep and that he'd had the weirdest dream. They were innkeepers in this small town in Vermont and there were these strange townspeople.... After listening briefly to Bob's story, Suzanne says goodnight Bob and turns out the light. Then Bob says the final (four) words of the series...

You know, the TV series about the inn in Vermont with the talking horse and the handyman whose mother was really a car....I think??

Think about Suzanne Pleshette's more outstanding assets, then recall the kinds of clothing Mary Frann wore as the Innkeeper's wife in the second series...

The final words, spoken from a darkened TV screen were:

                          "Wear more tight sweaters"

                            Don,

Those were two different series (equally unbelievable): Mr. Ed and My Mother the Car.

My wife and I have a friend who's a (single) female officer in the USAF and was stationed at Loring AFB, ME before it closed. For those unfamiliar with where Loring is (was), the nearest town is called Caribou and it's in the northeastern Maine woods. All that to say, there's not a lot of people around.

Speaking with our friend on the phone one time during her posting to Loring, my wife asked what the single male situation was like up there (meaning the marital stakes)...After a pause, our friend calmy answered: "Larry, Darell and Darrell...".

As a Canadian, I found another comment by our USAF friend quite entertaining. She said that during the Base Welcome Briefing for new arrivals, the Base Commander began: "Welcome to Loring Air Force Base. You now live further north than most Canadians..." And he was right!

                              Mike,

Same here. After the year in TO I've been very busy in my new job back here in OW, including the requirement to go to Colorado Springs just about once a month for 3-5 days. I'm almost inclined to look for property there...

How have things been with the Quebec Chapter? I've got to renew and I think I may have a prospective new member or two up the river here. Our senior military dentist just had his '70 convertible finished after a major windshield/door hinge post repair/replacement and a fresh paint job, and the guy around the corner from me doing the '64 coupe is talking NCRS membership as well.

Perhaps we'll make it down to the Beaconsfield picnic this year or maybe at least the fall road tour.

                              Stay in touch!
