Let me start at the begining. Last fall I had the upper steering colume bushing replaced. I didn't drive it until this spring when I noticed a jerky feel to it when I turned. I took it back into my local garage as I was told that the colume had to be pushed toward the steering box, the clamp loosened then tightened to take up the slack, then the bushing mount and upper colume retightened. That was attempted now the steering either locks or falls out at extremes and the horn sounds with almost every turn of the wheel. Is there any advice on how this can all be corrected? Any step by step instructions? Email if you would like. My mechanic and I are going nuts.

Re: Steering colume problems
OK, let's start from the beginning, the entire column can be easily removed from the car, and assembled as a unit. The Upper and lower bearing are compressed with the upper in a location that is fixed by the location of the turn signal switch (which houses the upper bearing) being permanently affixed the the column via the plate that holds the upper bown onto the column, and the lower allowing some adjustment. I would think that the plate has not been properly assembled. The 1964 service manual supplement available from the NCRS store has very clear instructions for this operation.Bill Clupper #618- Top
