    C2 Heater Box Caulk

    Members,
When I disassembled the heater box for restoration I found an off-white caulk substance between the plate that holds the heater core and the fiberglass box. This caulk is also used to seal the heater core to the mounting plate. Car is a '65.

What material can I use to replicate this factory caulk?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

    Regards,
    Gene

Gene, I have rebuilt 3 and have not seen any caulk or sealer anywhere. It may have been used by bubba on a prior rebuild.

      Gene,

I have my heater assembly apart on my '65 and I too have the caulking in the same places that you do. I just replaced it with some string caulking that I picked up at the local building supply store. Not much help, but that's all I have right now.

        Gene,

You might try some window bedding compound. Find it at LOWES or HOME DEPOT. Comes in a caulk tube. It's white and never hardens. I have used it for other applications and the stuff works pretty good.

          Doug,
Thank you for responsing to my posting and the tip about window bedding compound. Sounds like exactly what I have in mind.

My other choice was 3M strip caulk, but it is black in color and I would prefer a more authentic look.

          Regards,
          Gene

3M strip caulk comes in light gray. The heater box on my 65 had the same caulk in the heater box.
