On the 1957 passenger car dist that I have been around the vacuum line was a thread in type like a 1/4 inch brake line.

      Paul -

'57 single 4-barrels didn't have vacuum advance - they used a dual-point centrifugal-only distributor, and '57 WCFB's don't have a vacuum advance port. If you have a later vacuum advance distributor, you can pick up manifold vacuum from the rear of the baseplate by removing the hex plug and installing a fitting with a nipple on it.

are you saying that to be correct my 57 should not have any small hose running from carb. to distr. my does, goes from distr. to small nozzle in the front of the carb., so what do I have to buy to make it orginal as to distr.
aspect and would that correct distr. be easy to obtain thanks

          Paul -

The "correct" distributor for your '57 1x4 is #1110891, which is a cast-iron bowl-type dual-point with no vacuum advance and a standpipe oiler tube. That distributor was used on all carbureted 57's and on all 2x4's from '58-'61. From a purely functional perspective (ignoring originality), a vacuum-advance distributor is a better setup - better cooling, throttle response, and fuel economy. Your choice.
