    '70 deluxe interior

My 70 coupe has a code for saddle leather interior. I'm assuming the leather went with the deluxe interior. If so, someone changed my door panels and installed standard panels. My question is can I just get the trim parts and carpet and just convert the existing panels ? or is there some other difference in the panel which would force me to replace the entire panel? Also, should there have been wood trim on the console? Thanks all for your help

pete, leather = deluxe int. you might need to get different panels. dunno if you can convert from standard. my '70 has standard interior. from what i can remember, the wood inserts and panels that were in the '74 i owned (w/deluxe interior) were very different. the console also had the fake wood trim, and the carpet is thicker..a different pile. more plush.

Pete, yes wood insert inside the console plate along with wood inserts and trim running along both door panels under grab pull handle. door material was the same except at the bottom of the panel there was a chrome strip along with carpeted bottom to match the interior rugs. If you can wait a day or so I will take some pictures and email them to you. As far as the parts being available to convert over you might have to check with the suppliers. Also, your interior carpet wasn't the looped pile carpet.

          Pete...

Should you decide to replace the panels, and if they are the originals with no cracks, I'd be interested in funding your search for new panels.

The parts are all available. I was just wondering about any difference in the panel itself i.e. if the contours are all the same to accept the wood grain, carpet and chrome trim. In response to Dennis, I'm assuming the existing panels are replacements since the car should have had a deluxe interior.

Check the back of one of your door panels for a date. My original owner 70 deluxe interior door panels have a stamped date on them.

I replaced the door panels on my 70 with deluxe interior last year. I purchased panels from Al Knoch and transferred over the deluxe trim. I don't believe that there was any difference in the door panels offered for regular and deluxe interiors. Finding the chrome trim for the carpet strips on the bottom of the door could be a challenge as already stated. I have not seen these at any swap meets or repro catalogs but then again I was not looking for them specifically.

The original door panels and consoles had real wood veneer. All the replacements I have seen offer a peel and stick wood-look vinyl. I think there is an NCRS member who is doing these in the real wood.
