      Re: Door Handle ID

George, just last week there was a discussion on these inside handles. What are the differences in the ones you have?

      Thanks, Chris

I think that discussion was on mid-year handles.

Bill's response threw me off. YOur part numnbers are not 56-62. Below is Mike Ernst's response for those cars. 4151869

You've made me think--a dangerous thing to do!!!
          Here's what I've found:
I have 5 NOS cranks (in 4 different sizes of original GM boxes, by the way). All have the 869 number, and all are cast along the backside of the handle, not around the circumference.
I have one with 869 on the circumference--that is the only one that also has a patent number.
I have three used ones with 869 on the handle.
I have two used ones with 868 on the handle.
I looked at the back side of the handles on the three unrestored cars I have-- couldn't find part numbers on the backside of the handle--that would lead me to believe that these have the numbers on the circumference.
All the above used cranks come off of original 62's.
The ones that have the numbers on the backside of the handle also have a code--
one of the following:5B 1B 5C 4B. I am convinced that those are mold numbers, not dates.
The reproductions I have, by the way, have the "Taiwan" cast in an area that would be invisible when installed on the car. The only discernable difference I find is the peening of the back side of the actual knob's rivet.
So, now that you woke me up on all this--this is what I can tell you. It has no real value, but I managed to fill several paragraphs--that's what a day off is for, isn't it!?
          Mike
