my AC is not working, I can not even get it to trun on. Has anyone used the book Air conditioning strategies for the 63-82 corvette? I need a good trouble shooting book, would this be a good one?

Re: air conditioning
That book's more of a post-mortum engineering study of what affects the efficiency of Corvette A/C system (heat invasion from highway surface, undercarpet insulation, flow rate of heater/blower motor, duct size, Etc.). While it's a very interesting read, I wouldn't say it's what you want for basic system troubleshooting...
I'd start with the factory original documentation given to dealership mechanics in the 1969 Chassis Service Manual and go from there. Your FIRST priority should be to find out why the A6 compressor's clutch isn't engaging when you move the center console control switch to the A/C mode settings.
Hints:
(1) Many versions of the Corvette A/C system have a temperature sensitive relay to defeat the compressor from turning on if ambient temperature is so low the compressor isn't needed for cooling. A failure here would result in the A/C system being grossly dysfunctional at all times.
(2) On '72 and later Corvettes, the A6 compressor is equipped with a 'super heat' switch (single terminal screw-in for the rear plate of the compressor, just below the hose/manifold lines). The superheat switch effectively shunted the clutch actuating wire to ground to turn the compressor OFF in the event the system had lost refrigerant and operation of the compressor, DRY, would result in burning the compressor up. Miswiring or a faulty superheat switch on these later model Corvettes can also result in the compressor refusing to turn on...- Top
