1966 Paint Code question

I have a 66 factory color silver pearl code 986. It had one lacquer re-paint in 1982 and I need to paint my doors to cover up aftermarket mirrors the org owner put on.

Under the drivers door I found the following in handwritten black ink:

# A9757D
(RM)w/RM clear.

I have no idea what this means, was RM a manufacturer of lacquer and what does A9757D mean. Can one buy this brand of paint anymore, or match in PPG for example. As you can read I know nothing about paint.......any assistance is sincerely appreciated.....cheers/

"RM" paint products are still used in the automotive paint business.
RM is a quality paint for automotive use.
The number is possibly their code for your color. Check out your local yellow pages for a supplier.
Color match might be a problem after 23 years, metallic base, and lacquer paint.

Keith - RM is a well known atomotive pait supplier..in fact, it seems like the RM codes were given for the colors in some of the books I have seen. Anyway, RM stands for Rinshed-Mason, and it sounds like you have the lacquer paint code used back then along the apparent comment that it was clear coated on top of the lacquer with a lacquer clear. It is always difficult to match some of these older lacquer paints, with fade, and formulation changes that today don't allow the same fine flake particles and match. You can still get lacquer at some outlets in the states, but they have changed. Silver is one of the difficult colors to match well...see the RM website below......Craig
