    72 Build Sheet Questions

Dropped the tank on my 72 LT1 today to do some clean-up and see if the build sheet was there. In my case it was on the right side of the fill-neck of the tank and only had a blotch of glue holding it. The good thing about that is that it allowed the sheet to fold over and protect itself. It still very legible.

Was curious if anyone knows what Zone 32 Dealer 161 is?

There are two codes that are harder to read and look like they have to do with the front and rear springs (F or P62 and C or G32?). Any idea what they are?

The radio U69, does not include stereo. What was used in these cases - just the two speakers, the radio and no other components?

    Thanks!

The U69 radio had the two speakers and an amplifier located under the dash opn right side. The stereo radio had the two speakers and a box located asomewhere above the radio that I beleive was different than the mono amp. Not sure if it was another type of amp but maybe degined for stereo.

Our own data base shows dealer 161 from zone 32 being Clay Chev. 431 Washington St. Newton, Ma. circa 1974.

If it is Clay Chevrolet in Newton, Mass. they are still there and at the same location on Washington Street. I drove by it yesterday.

Thanks guys. Will call later today. Probably purged all the old records but who knows, someone may know something about the car.

            Thanks!

              Joe:

The ECL codes F62 and G32 are for the front and rear springs, these were standard in the LT-1, LS-5.

F62 and G32 were internal scheduling options that triggered the program for the computer-selected springs.

                  More precisely...

U69 consisted of the radio chassis installed in the center console, a 'convector' bolted to the RH lower WS frame, two dash mounted speakers and all the 'hush-up' radio support items (shielding, strategically located capacitors, Etc.). The items are called out and shown in your copy of the AIM (Assembly Instruction Manual).

The 'convector' is basically an aluminum heat sink with a DS-501 speaker drive transistor on it. Equivalent Chevy passenger cars had sufficient behind dash space for the drive transistor to be built into the radio chassis itself, but not Corvette...

When U79 was ordered, the main radio chassis changed and the convector was replaced by an 'adaptor' assy (one version for standard Corvette another for A/C optioned Corvette). The adaptor provided RH + LH stereo channel separation in addition to housing the final speaker drive electronics.

Integration technology would come along to reduce component count and later year Shark cars got the stereo signal de-mux electronics moved back into the center console chassis with the 'adaptor' being replaced with a simplified, dual transistor, heat sink (stereo convector) to drive both speakers...
